This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were
created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens--

God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make
a helper suitable for him."

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of
the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man
to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each
living creature, that was its name.

suitable helper was found.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while

The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my

People were bringing little
children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples
rebuked them.

When Jesus saw this, he
was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little
children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the
kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

I tell you the truth,
anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like
a little child will never enter it."

And he took the children

On the third day a wedding
took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,

and Jesus and his disciples
had also been invited to the wedding.

When the wine was gone,
Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."

"Dear woman, why
do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time
has not yet come."

His mother said to the
servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

Nearby stood six stone
water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial
washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

Jesus said to the servants,
"Fill the jars with water"; so they filled
them to the brim.

Then he told them, "Now
draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."
They did so,

and the master of the
banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.
He did not realize where it had come from, though the
servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called
the bridegroom aside

and said, "Everyone
brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper
wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but
you have saved the best till now."

This, the first of his
miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee.
He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their
faith in him.

loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

If you obey my commands,
you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my
Father's commands and remain in his love.

I have told you this so
that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

My command is this: Love
each other as I have loved you.

Greater love has no one
than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

You are my friends if
you do what I command.

I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master's business.
Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that
I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit
that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever
you ask in my name.
